In episode eleven of the Second in Command Podcast Cameron sat down with Clinton Senkow, COO of Influencive.

How Influencive Was Created

Clinton Senkow recalls when Brian D. Evans started focusing his full attention towards Influencive. He basically started it as a personal blog that allowed him to share his wisdom and entrepreneurial experiences while building, growing, and selling businesses. It was shortly after that when Brian approached Clinton about writing for the site. Clinton quickly realized that Influencive was a company that spoke directly to him.

In the short time that Influencive has been created, their social media following has grown from non-existent to over 1.2 million viewers. With over 350 contributing writers, Influencive is very particular when selecting who they work with. Clinton’s main focus is on brand development and discovering new partnerships. His day to day operations consist of working with the writers and organising details to help things run smoothly.

Effective Time Management

It is important to have a messaging platform that you can access from your phone and directly connect with your team. It can be imperative to have questions answered immediately and this is where Slack comes in handy. It is easy to get overwhelmed with so many messaging platforms, Clinton tries to stick to one internal platform and avoids the conversations getting spread out and easily lost. The biggest tip Clinton can give is: whatever platform you use, just use it, it is important to be in communication with your employees. You will never find a platform that everybody is happy with, but finding one that efficiently works to move your business forward is the goal.

Clinton says that he uses Facebook as a business tool even more so than LinkedIn. Facebook started approximately the same time that Clinton was creating his own business and this made it easy for him to connect with clients.

Clinton’s Thoughts on Social Media

Clinton speaks of social media networks and how he would much rather focus on quality rather than quantity. Seeing a social network grow is important to the growth of a business, but when a COO or CEO starts accepting too many friend requests, their timeline gets cluttered with marketing nonsense. He believes that you need to surround yourself with the right people to reach those different levels of success. He has always tried to spend time with people that make him feel better, that make him want to keep moving forward, that make him hit the other stepping stone in his career. People at different levels of success can help bring focus to a subject.

Tips for COO’s

Clinton recommends learning how to utilize working remotely. To have the ability and access to conduct business development using different social media tools can exponentially expand your outreach. It’s not something that happens overnight, and it’s something that takes time and effort. Clinton says that his superpower is connecting with people that are 2 or 3 degrees away from the top people in the business world.
