The Importance of Social Media as a Marketing Tool in 2020

Mar 19, 2020 | 0 comments

It’s 2020, and now more than ever it is essential that businesses are using social media as a marketing tool. It does more than just keep people connected to each other, but allows companies/brands to share their stories and connect to their customers directly, in real-time, and in meaningful ways..

How can you improve your use of social media as a marketing tool in 2020?

Here are some tips to get you started.

Increasing Brand Recognition

One of the best ways to get your company’s name out there and recognized is through social media marketing. Seeing as brand recognition has one of the largest effects on whether a customer will choose you over someone else, it is essential that you use social media as a marketing tool to increase it.

“Using social media for marketing enables your business to project your brand image across a variety of different social media platforms.” – WordStream

Nearly everyone has an account on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc, so use that. Get online, determine what your social media strategy is going to be, and then get posting. It will help you to get in front of more eyes than ever before, which is exactly what you need to increase brand recognition.

Targeting Audiences

Social media is a very effective marketing tool for targeting specific audiences. If used right, it can target certain age groups, interest groups, personalities, etc. The best way to do this is by knowing which platforms and tools work for different kinds of audiences.

“Social media marketing for small businesses usually starts with having a consistent presence on social media. Close to three billion people (3,000,000,000!) use social media. By being present on social media platforms, you give your brand an opportunity to be discovered by your future customers.” – Buffer

If your target audience is younger people then make sure you have a presence on Instagram. You can also use hashtags to be seen by even more specific groups of people, like #socialmediamarketers or #marketingtipsforentrepreneurs. Take some time to look through hashtags that are trending to see which ones will give you the best opportunity to be seen by the most people.

Gain Marketplace Insight

As a marketing tool, social media gives you the opportunity to learn a lot about your consumers and what interests them. Social media makes it easy to follow trends, declining interests, and learn what things appeal to your audience.

“Growing your audience also means discovering conversations around your business and industry that matter the most.” – Sprout Social

When you have insight into your market, you can use that information to adjust your social media marketing strategy. One way to do it is to monitor your customer’s activity on social media – so, like a few of your competitor’s pages and see what kind of engagement/questions/comments they get on their channels. Also pay attention to review, especially negative – and learn from them.

Developing Communication

Communication is very important in any business and social media is a very effective communication tool.

“Social media channels offer a company the opportunity to speak to, and hear from their client base, prospects, and business partners. The speed and ease with which such two-way communication takes place helps a company to quickly respond to market expectations.” – Trade Ready

Nowadays, social media is where a lot of communication between companies and consumers happens. People are a lot quicker to build an interest and connection with a strong social media platform because it’s a lot easier to get to know the basics of a company that way.

Building a Community

When you actively communicate and engage with your audience through social media you’ll start to develop an online community. With an online community, you can continually increase your audience and build a strong sense of loyalty around your company and/or brand.

“Instead of using social networks solely as marketing platforms to advertise products, companies can now use social media to build customer experience and create engagement. The ability to connect and communicate directly with a target audience allows brands to build a solid fan base and grow their community easily.” – OMI

Using social media as a marketing tool can be consuming at times, but when done properly it is incredibly powerful. It takes hard work, but if you align your strategy with goals and build a foundation focusing on these five things, you’ll be able to be successful.
