Get to know your Ottawa and Toronto City Forums Chair - Pierrette Raymond!

My name is Pierrette Raymond and I’m a small town Northern Ontario girl who moved to the Nation’s Capital in 2000 to start a professional junk removal business with my husband and at the time, my three and six-year-old children. This move and the decision to be founding franchise partners of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? (#5 in the company’s history) changed the course of my life.

Today, I’m a proud mother of two adult children who work in fields they absolutely love. My husband and I have been married 26 years, having been together for 31 years. He is also my business partner and all things operations in our 18 ½-year-old 1-800-GOT-JUNK? business. And I just recently sold my home transition business of 8 ½ years to immerse myself in working with COOs and 2nd In Commands who are at the core of running business operations and growing businesses at scale.

When Cameron reached out to me earlier this summer to spearhead the first Canadian COO Alliance City Forum chapter, I was honoured. As fate would have it, the purchaser of my home transition business came knocking the day after Cameron approached me with the COO Alliance City Forum opportunity, which made it all come together in a way that made it meant to be. Today, I have the honour and privilege of working with COOs and 2nd In Commands who are changing lives and having an immense impact on the lives of many because they believe in their company’s vision and mission, and the people who work together to make it all come to life.

As I look back on my own peer-to-peer mastermind and coaching experiences, my first one was a $10,000 investment. I sat in the audience at a business-building conference and knew that it was time to say “yes” to me and time to invest in my growth in a whole new way. I knew I had to be with those who walked the journey before me, who knew the success I wanted and knew I was destined to have, and the only way to do that was to invest to be with them. To sit with them at the table as they shared their experiences and their expertise and learn from them, and eventually share too. Little did I know that by saying yes to the $10,000 investment in my personal and professional growth would lead to a return of investment well over 100X that amount.

Every time I have said yes to investing in growing, learning, and pushing myself forward, the more the return on investment came back to me, and in multiple ways. I believe in the power of peer-to-peer masterminds and growth experiences, and it is such a pay-it-forward moment to see so many experience it for themselves in the COO Alliance City Forum groups.

I’ve been asked to share a few of my awards and accolades received. I have had a few over the years but one of the most treasured is the Forty Under 40 that I was awarded, the Amazing People Award that was given to me after the philanthropic work that was recognized in my community, and the Ontario Leading Women Building Communities award in 2013, given by the Government of Ontario to women in our province, “who demonstrate exceptional leadership in working to improve the lives of others in their communities.”

Outside of this life of work that I love, I am a quiet, laid-back country living woman who loves nature, hiking with my three dogs, reading books that inspire me and sometimes anger me. My family time is always the most precious time as it seems to be what I miss the most out of everything I love about my life. My family brings me the greatest joy and they fill an empty cup in a matter of seconds.

One thing is true about business – you continually evolve. You continually grow. You can’t grow businesses without growing yourself.

I may run a multi-million dollar company and coach and mentor those who do too, but I’m a simple woman with a big heart. I want success to come from a place that has meaning and makes a contribution. I want each of you to live a life that brings you joy in your own way and also inspires others to live lives where they get to be their best selves.

I guess that is why working in the world of business operations is a sandbox I love to play in. There are so many ways to build amazing cultures, spark and ignite the greatness in others, and build businesses that are making a difference.

That is who I am, and yes, so much more too. If you have taken the time to read this far, gosh! I would so love to connect with you! I’d love to know how we have a link that got you to read all this way. What was it? How can we continue to get to know each other, in a way that helps you and helps others who are directly impacted by the difference you make?

Reach out to me. Click here to connect with me via email. If you want to explore the COO Alliance City Forums that I run, you can explore that here.

I know that what you do as a COO, the 2nd In Command, is work that often goes unnoticed, but I want you to know that what you do matters and I would like to recognize you for what you do. I look forward to connecting with you and getting to know you better, perhaps through the COO Alliance City Forum or through your business.
